Argyle Christmas Tree Pillow

This fun pillow makes a great house warming gift for those with Scottish heritage, that someone special who loves to golf, or for anyone who appreciates the charm of the classic argyle pattern. Crochet yours in traditional holiday colors or mix it up with a variety of colors; the choice is yours. Written for worsted/aran weight yarn, however the pattern can be worked in just about any yarn. Try sock yarn and make an ornament; try bulky and make a statement!

VARIATIONS

Replace the pom-pom with a star, pattern included.
Adjust the size of the pillow by using thicker or thinner yarn. Use a hook that will yield a tight stitch so the stuffing does not show through.
Work your pillow double stranded. Keep one strand the same color and vary the color of the second strand for an instantly decorated tree. Great way to use up some scrap yarn! Please note: this will require additional yarn.
Mix and match! Make two pillows, one solid and one double sided argyle.

Finished size, approximately 9” by 12”.

Yarn: Cascade Yarns, Pacific 40% Superwash Merino Wool/60% Acrylic [3.5 oz/100 g 213 yd/195 m] (medium-4), worsted weight yarn.

CA- Taupe #15, 7 g/4 yd
CB- Denim Heather #65, 43 g/21 yd
CC- Stonewash #64, 17 g/8 yd
CD- Charcoal #62 2 g/1 yd
CE- Sand #09 4 g /2 yd

Please note, yarn amounts are approximate. Allow for at least a 10% variance when purchasing yarn.

Hook: H (5.0 mm) or size needed to obtain correct gauge

Other: Stitch markers, yarn needle, scrap thread, poly-fiberfill

NOTES:

Pattern is written in English using standard US stitches.

SKILL LEVEL:

Intermediate as you will be required to work with two colors at once. Experience with changing colors mid-row and familiarity with either tapestry crochet (working over unused yarn) or intarsia crochet (floating unused yarn on WS) is recommended.

GAUGE:

Exact gauge is not essential. If your gauge is close to stated gauge, your finished pillows will be close to the reported measurements. 18 rows, 15 sts in sc = 4”.
