  1. Could you tell me what other yarn would work good for these hats that is comparable to cottontots? I cannot purchase that brand anywhere near me. I have made this hat a couple of times & it has been huge for the little girl even following the guage so I am hoping that I am just using the wrong type yarn. Thank you

    • Hi Melonie,
I’m sorry you are having trouble with the sizing. I have used Bernat Baby Cakes for this hat with great success. Are you a member of Ravelry? If so, you can click on “yarn ideas”, the second tab, on this page, http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/waiting-for-spring-flapper-hat-with-rose to see what other yarns have been used for this hat. Some listed are Caron Simply Soft, PeachesNCreame, I love this cotton! and Pound of Love. If you are having trouble with the sizing, are you going by age suggestions or by head circumference? If the little one has a smaller head than what falls in the average for her age, you may need to go down a size. I hope this helps.

  2. Allô Darleen, I purcahsed your Floppy hat pattern but I cannot seem to find how to do the gauge ,how many stitches and how long, can you help me? How do I know I have the propper sizing?
    Thank you .

    • Hi Dianne,
Thank you for contacting me. There isn’t a gauge swatch with this pattern but gauge check points in the pattern itself. Start crocheting with the All Sizes instructions using yarn that is equivalent to the stated yarn and hook size in the pattern. Check your measurements after rnd 5 and rnd 6. If they are as stated in the pattern, then continue on to size you wish to make. If you are off, make the necessary hook adjustment and work the rounds again. The first few rounds stitch very quickly. I found this method to be very accurate and quicker than stitching a swatch that isn’t usable when complete. One thing to note, when measuring gauge/diameter, always place the tape measure at the last stitch made and then measure through the middle, directly across. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
      Thank you,
      Darleen
